Azerbaijan discusses the construction of trans-Caspian pipeline from Turkmenistan and the EU

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan discussed proposals to build a pipeline to deliver Turkmen gas to Europe via the Caspian Sea, said UNN referring to Bloomberg.
Caspian states are also working on a project agreement with the European Union to provide political support for the pipeline, told Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natik Aliyev in Baku.

«Turkmenistan declares that he is ready to sell about 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year in the EU Union on its shores Caspian Sea» — said Aliyev, in his words Azerbaijan, for its part wants that Turkmen fuel sold in the Azerbaijan coast.

Increased interest of the EU to diversify their sources of gas caused by the desire to curb dependence on supplies from Russia, which have been violated several times in transit through Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly expressed opposition to the idea of building a pipeline across the Caspian Sea, citing environmental reasons.

The proposed Trans-Caspian gas pipeline is an important element of the planned EU Southern Gas Corridor, said President Ilham Aliyev.

Recall that after the European Union and Turkmenistan reached an agreement on the project Trans-Caspian pipeline, the Azeri side may consider providing transit through its territory.

In September 2011 the Council of the European Union last year gave the mandate for negotiations between the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to build Trans-Caspian pipeline.

Trans gas pipeline stretching about 300 kilometers will be routed from the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, where it will be connected to the «Southern Gas Corridor». Negotiations with the European Union Turkmenistan and other countries to build a Trans-Caspian pipeline underway since the late 90's
last century.

During the negotiations with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, the EU intends to discuss an agreement setting out the legal obligations of the parties, bilateral agreements needed Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan for the construction and operation of the Trans-Caspian pipeline and to discuss the legal framework that will apply to the filling gas pipeline from Turkmenistan including recognition of commercial transactions.
